Comparision of Four Local Epidural Anesthetic Solution for Elective Caesarean Section

Abstract
The effect of four groups of epidural local anesthetic solutions were compared, 0.5% bupivacaine 22ml (group I), 2% lidocaine 22ml(Group I), 0.5%bupivacaine 11 ml and 2% lidocaine 11ml(Group ¥²), 0.5% bupivacaine 20ml and fentanyl 100¥ìg(Group
¥³)in
forty patients undergoing elective Caesarean section. The major outcome measure were time to analgesia of T4 and their corresponding changes in vital sign, need for intraoperative analgesic supplements, patient's assessment of analgesia, motor
and
sensory recovery time, complications and their incidence.
The result were as follows; The time to onset of analgesia to T4 and their corresponding vital sign changes were not significant among groups. The quality of analgesia assessed by the need for analgesic supplement was superior and the motor and
sensory
recovery time were significantly prolonged in patients given fentanyl. The incidence of complications were relatively higher in patients given fentanyl but no serious complication has occurred. It is concluded that use of bupivacaine with
fentanyl
has
felatively no serious complications and advantage of prolonged postoperative analgesia.
